McDavid excels in skating speed; more advanced metrics standouts from postseason

NHL.com's fantasy staff continues to cover the latest trends and storylines in the League through the lens of NHL EDGE puck and player tracker stats. Throughout the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, we identify the leaders in key advanced metrics.
The Edmonton Oilers center had the top skating speed of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, reaching 23.92 miles per hour on an end-to-end rush in the third period of Game 2 against the Los Angeles Kings in the first round. McDavid's teammate, Viktor Arvidsson, ranked second in the category at 23.90 mph (Game 3 against Vegas Golden Knights in second round). McDavid also led the NHL in 20-plus mph speed bursts (186 in 22 games) by a wide margin.
The Winnipeg Jets defenseman led the League in top shot speed (99.74 mph) this postseason, with a close second in the category being Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard (99.62). Miller ranked fourth in the NHL in top shot speed during the regular season (103.08 mph). Bouchard had the most 90-plus mph shots (22 in 22 games) this postseason.
The Edmonton Oilers wing was tied for first in high-danger goals (eight in 22 games) this postseason with Florida Panthers center Sam Bennett (eight in 23 games). Perry led all players in the Stanley Cup Final with 12 high-danger SOG and was tied for second in the category (27) behind McDavid (29) this postseason. Bennett was tied with Perry in high-danger SOG (27), tied for third in midrange SOG (21) and tied for first in midrange goals (four).
The Florida Panthers starter led the NHL in high-danger saves (135) and games with a save percentage greater than .900 (14) this postseason. Bobrovsky faced the most high-danger shots (165 in 23 games played) of any goalie, 28 ahead of Dallas Stars starter Jake Oettinger (137), who led the entire playoff field in midrange shots faced (136) and midrange saves (122). Bobrovsky led all goalies in long-range shots faced (157) and long-range saves (153).
The Carolina Hurricanes defenseman led the NHL in offensive zone time percentage (53.0 in 15 games) this postseason, as well as even-strength offensive zone time percentage (49.5). Gostisbehere also led the League in offensive zone time percentage during the regular season (51.3).
